[UAH] Stokely Carmichael (1941-1998)

Stokely Carmichael (alias Kwame Touré) est né à Port-of-Spain (Trinidad et Tobago).

Venu avec sa famille vivre à New York, il étudia à l’université et milita au sein du Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (comité de coordination non-violente des étudiants) dont il prit la direction.

Il milita également en 1967 au sein du Black Panther Party.

En 1969, Carmichael et son épouse Miriam Makeba s’installèrent en Guinée. Carmichael, devenu panafricaniste, fut le conseiller de Sékou Touré et il changea de nom en son honneur.
